A rock, weighing 5 tons, which has come from Mt Harriet and is a gift from the Falklands people to SAMA Wales is being delivered to Brecon this Sunday 12th Feb. If any member wishes to come along and witness this and to attend drinks and buffet after the TA Regiment have ceremoniously lifted it into place. Dave MacCreedy is working on a book to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the war, Dave is looking for pictures from veterans to include in this commemorative publication. Firstly Happy New Year to you all. This first entry is probably the worst kept secret since the discovery of oil in the Falklands. Last week a ship docked at Marchwood near Southampton from the Falklands. On board was a piece of rock weighing in at 5 tonnes and from the start line at Mt Harriet. SAMA Wales have organised thanks to Brian Jones and others for this rock to come to us in order that we may make a national monument for the Falklands conflict in Wales. A full colour book has been published containing 130 pages in full colour dedicated to the Men and Women of the Armed Forces who have lost their lives in Northern Ireland, The Falkland Islands, Flying Accident Hastings Aircraft Call Sign TG 577 and the Mull of Kintyre.
This is a limited edition and will be raising money for a number of good causes.

Remembrance Parade Cardiff 13th November 2005. Just some of the die hards paying our respect at this years parade.
Paul Wickers 'Doc' is the Secretary of the Llanelli Branch of the RNA and has just donate £100 to SAMA Wales. During the 6 nations which Wales won hands down by the way!!!!!!!! he held a sweep on the first try scorer. He now intends to repeat this during November. i would like to thank 'Doc' for this and if anyone wants to repeat this in work or in your clubs we can get printed forms done to assist you. just let us know!

Our charity has very kindly been given from Brains Brewery, the sponsors of the Welsh Rugby Union, a photograph of the 2004/2005 Welsh 6 Nations winning squad. This has been signed personally by the players then mounted and framed in distressed pine. The frame measures 30 x 23 inches.
SAMA Wales is a branch of Falkland War Veterans and Families and a registered Charity and will on Saturday 10th of September in Cardiff, during their annual fundraising night, auction this fantastic gift. Everybody is invited to the social event which includes the Mynyddislwyn Male Voice Choir, and a hot meal. Tickets for the evening cost £10 per person. This unique opportunity to bid for a part of Welsh history is also being extended to include sealed bidding. We will start the auction at £100 and only the winner, if not present on the night, will be notified. SAMA Wales were privileged to help "Charlie" brown (SAMA North Rep) and the rest of FOC ex PARA in their recent Charity Fan Dance. The lads and Lasses walked up to Pen Y Fan to raise funds for among others SAMA (82). On top was SAMA Wales members Kenny Dawkins and Graham Hurley with the National Standard. Gary played a huge part in the 2002 Pilgrimage and we know that the veterans are in safe hands. Advance notice for the SAMA Wales reunion. Saturday 10th September will see the third annual reunion/AGM/fundraising evening at the TA Centre in Adam Street Cardiff. A hot buffet with the company of a Male Voice choir is planned along with the now famous Duggan raffle! Again an auction is planned so don't forget your cheque books! We have delayed fixing a date so as not to coincide with the Mardi Gras as so many of our members are torn between the two!!!!

News just in the FOC of the Parachute Regiment will be holding their annual charity Fan Dance (TAB across Pen Y Fan) on the weekend of the 14th and 15th of May. Proceeds will go to SAMA 82 and a cancer patient belonging to SAMA.
SAMA Wales need help to either partake in the sponsored walk or to help Curly with some logistics at Storey Arms

News just in from the Trafalgar 200 team.
They are arranging a Veterans Ferry to go round the fleet at anchor off Spithead in June. On the 26th, am or pm for 2 hours at £10.00. On the 27th am same for £10.00. On the 27th pm £17.50, but includes taking part in the rehearsal for the Sovereigns Review. Evening of the 28th, £40.00 for viewing the fleet followed by the fireworks and son et lumiere.

If you remember at last years SAMA Wales reunion Bruce and Peter won seats to return to the Falklands. They have now returned after spending 10 days with our friends Tim & Jan Miller. We will publish their story soon, but in the meantime we have these few pictures of our boys.

CWM Environmental Services today donated a valuable park bench to be placed at Fitzroy in the Falkland islands. The Royal Fleet Auxiliary will take the bench down to the Falklands in early January and the Falkland Islanders will make a hard standing for it in time for March 1st 2005. Stephen Hopkins, Curly and 4 other veterans will be present to unveil the bench.
Mitch Green (ex Welsh Guards and CWM executive) with Curly (Extremely handsome bald bloke on left) today at the official handover .
Mitch Green 'legs', who lost his cousin Paul on the Sir Galahad, handed over the Park Bench made of recycled plastic and aluminium and guaranteed a lifetime valued at £700 to Curly who in turn will take it to Plymouth for transportation to the Falklands. Mitch who served 22 years in the army will also do a sponsored bike ride of 60 miles to raise funds for SAMA Wales. More news to follow.

Today SAMA Wales paraded for the first time in the Cardiff Remembrance Parade. We were honoured that the SAMA 82 standard carried by Graham Hurley accompanied us on our first visit to Cardiff. A small turn our by 13 members was increased by another 4 from South Atlantic Medal Holders who paraded with other associations. Some photo's are included next year we hope to increase our representation greatly as we now know what to expect! Many thanks to our band of supporters e.g. Jill, Shelley and Ion.

Happy birthday to Tim Miller, SAMA Wales's very own (well 50%) botanist in Stanley. Tim & Jan will be flying our Inaugural Flag on their flagpole tomorrow to mark Armistice Day. The South Atlantic Medal Association Wales Branch (SAMA Wales), is a newly established branch of veterans of the Falklands War. Encompassing the whole of Wales they already have a membership of 360 veterans and today received a grant of £3,700 for computer equipment and related articles from the lottery-funded grants programme ‘Awards for all Wales’.
The new equipment will enable the group to provide a twice yearly newsletter and create an extensive database in order to deliver a more professional service. SAMA Wales’s Secretary, Andy Jones from Libanus, Brecon is thrilled with the award “This grant will make a huge difference in our operation. The branch is barely a year old and now we can concentrate on our preparations for the 25th anniversary in 2007. Confirmation has been received of the return of two veterans to the Falklands in January 2005. Bruce Kirkham (Atlantic Conveyer) and Peter Evans (Welsh Guards) who won their places at this years reunion in Cardiff will be returning in Jan 05. In addition Billy Baynham is returning this November for Remembrance Day. SAMA Wales will support our lads whilst on their pilgrimage.

Curly and Neil Wilkinson today met with the First Minister for Wales the Right Honourable Rhodri Morgan. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the possible erection of a national monument dedicated to the sons of Wales who paid the ultimate price in restoring freedom and democracy to the Falkland Islands and its people.
Mr Morgan expressed his support to such an idea and wished to be kept informed. Neil Wilkinson and Curly are currently working on a comprehensive action plan with much more information to be published soon
